Kerberos Academy – New educational project Kerberos Animal Creatorium
Relationships between pet owners and their pets are becoming increasingly important. Pets become full-fledged members of our family because of the physical and emotional bonds we establish with them. The loss of our pet can be shocking to us, and our deep grief is often linked to a lack of social understanding. We would like to change this with our new educational project called Kerberos Academy.
How can I cope with the loss of my pet?
In Kerberos, pet owners often ask us how to deal with the loss of a pet, why it hurts so much, and if there is anything else they could have done to save it. They want to know how to cope with the knowledge that they have consented to the euthanasia of a dog or cat. They ask how to prepare for the death of a pet, admitting that they don't even want to think about it. We have seen a great need to talk about these difficult topics – both with pet owners and veterinarians. We have invited a group of experts to work with the Kerberos Academy to help us find solutions that solve these problems.
Bereavement
Grieving is a complex process characterized by a great variety of experiences and their intensity. Our culture presents us with a paradox: pet ownership is very popular, but there is a lack of awareness of their social and psychological role in the daily lives of caregivers. Mourning the death of a pet can be incomprehensible to those around you, which is why it is also unacceptable, and breeders are expected to quickly overcome their grief.
A psychological perspective allows for a more complete understanding of the importance that their owners attach to companion animals, and an appropriate recognition of the role of a friendly dog or cat in a person's inner life is the starting point for social validation. Our goal will be to raise public awareness of the right to decent treatment of animal bodies after their death and reverent respect for grieving beloved animals.
There's nothing wrong with honest emotions
By observing and talking to pet owners who entrust their pets to us, we have noticed that education is especially important – for both adults and children. We wish that no pet owner would be afraid to talk about death, their own fears, and the sadness they feel. The pain of death by confiding does not go away, but we can tame it a little so that it is not so frightening and incomprehensible.
There is nothing wrong with showing sincere emotions, rejecting shame or fear. In situations where the caregiver is unable to bear the weight of the loss, they should seek help from a professional. This is what the Kerberos Academy offers – together with our experts, we will discuss all difficult topics, as well as help in caring for and saying goodbye to animals.
Kerberos Academy – help in the most difficult moments
Few of us can prepare for the death of a close family member or friend, and animals can play both roles in the lives of their owners. Grieving people experience both emotional and physical stress as they try to adjust to how the loss has changed their lives. Losing an animal is a personal but also a social experience, as the animal-human relationship is perceived as less important in society than human-human, and people who have difficulties in the grieving process and need additional support often do not have access to adequate help.
As part of the activities of the Kerberos Academy, we will prepare educational materials and meetings with specialists in the field of psychology, animal behaviorism and veterinary medicine. All this in order to help breeders in difficult situations related to the care of their beloved pet. We will accompany you at every stage: from caring for an animal struggling with old age and serious illness, to the decision to euthanize the animal, to the subsequent stages of grieving after the loss.
Completely free of charge
All the materials we will share with you as part of the Kerberos Academy project will be completely free of charge. We want such important content to be generally available and have the ability to increase social sensitivity. We believe that together we will be able to fight for the well-being of animals, the right to their dignified burial and socially acceptable mourning for our animal friends, members of our families.
